Shri Hiralal Chhotalal Thakkar was born in 1809 at Surat. From his very childhood, he was very much fond of reading and always remained busy in studying different types of literatures. He completed his education at the age of 20 years and laid the foundation of "Gajanan Pustakalaya" in 1929. Initially, the company started as books vendor and subsequently started publication work in the field of education. The company published a record publication of 1,500 books in Gujarati, Hindi, English & Marathi and got a wide recognition in Gujarat as a premier Books Publishing Company.

Shri Hiralal was well aware of his social obligations and always worked for the betterment of poor families. He started working for the betterment of society by establishing night schools, associations and also established "Ghoghari Lohana Mahajan" in 1950. He was a symbol of hard work and philanthropy. His sad demise on 29-12-1986 left a big vacuum in the society. He was succeeded by six daughters and two sons. At present Shri Vijaybhai is expanding their 80 years old business and developing it all over India.
